Introduction
As part of the world's largest industry, hotels have a huge
environmental impact as well as a tremendous opportunity
to demonstrate that they share the concerns of the traveling public.
In fact, according to the Travel Industry Association of America,
83 percent of US travelers are inclined to support green travel
companies.
Engaging with hotels about implementing environmentally
responsible practices such as energy efficient lighting and
towel-linen reuse programs not only help to reduce their
environmental footprint, but can also lead to lower operating
expenses and new business from environmentally conscious
consumers.
The mission of CERC's Hotel Committee is to:
• Increase the environmental commitment of all Boston-
area hotels in time for the Democratic National Convention
by providing professional advice about best practices and available
resources to all interested hotel owners.
• Ask all hotels to take 5 easy steps to make their hotel
greener in time for the DNC. These 5 steps address
issues of energy efficiency, solid waste, environmentally preferred
purchasing, water conservation and increased awareness.
• Create simple, easy-to-use resource guides to aid hotels
in their greening process.
• Plan, promote, and lead a seminar for hotel owners on
how to green their hotels.
More about the Hotel Committee's work is provided at Projects
and the Hotel Fact Sheet.
