Introduction
Over reliance by convention-goers on ordinary motor vehicles will
add to Boston's daily traffic burden of congestion, noise, and air
pollution, harming both the public's health and the environment.
July sunshine and temperatures predictably bake vehicle emissions
to cause ozone and air quality alerts.
Yet, Boston is a wonderfuly walkable city with good public transportation
that convention participants can easily use. Also, advanced vehicles
and alternative fuels are now available which can cut vehicle exhaust.
The mission of CERC's Transportation Committee is to:
• Maximize public transit use and access.
• Reduce transportation emissions; introduce additional
low emission buses and cars and curb idling.
• Capitalize on Boston's and New York's walkability.
